Axedale Quarries
Heidelberg Materials acknowledges the importance of working with and supporting local communities through the operation of both its Axedale Quarry Sites.
Heidelberg Materials operates the Axedale Sand and Gravel Quarry and Hard Rock Quarry and continues to provide local employment opportunities to the township of Axedale.
Through innovation we lead, create and support long lasting community.
Axedale Sand and Gravel Quarry is located approximately 2km East of the township of Axedale and approximately 20km East of Bendigo. The Quarry originally operated as a clay pit, extracting the kaolin that occurs at shallow depths. It was further developed into a sand quarry to supply construction sand into the internal and external market. Heidelberg Materials purchased the Quarry in 2014 and continues to operate and develop the Site today.
Axedale Hard Rock Quarry is located 2km South of the Sand and Gravel Quarry approximately 1.5km South East of the township of Axedale. The Quarry has been in operation since the 1860’s and is one of Victoria’s oldest continuously operated quarries.
The Quarry has operated under an extraction authority since 1973 and was purchased by Pioneer in 1990’s. Heidelberg Materials acquired Pioneer in the early 2000’s and continued to operate this Quarry. The Quarry extracts around 500-600 thousand tonnes per annum, producing aggregates for concrete and a range of crushed rocks for road base and sub-base uses.
